Jimbe to Caraz

Riding day #19, Nov 29, 2013
After a day like yesterday the pavement was welcomed.
Easy day over the mountain. Amazing view, specially when the snow cap mountain appeared.

Chimpote to Jimbe

Riding day #18, Nov 28, 2013
The original destination was Caraz but we never made it.
We got lost 3 times, and we had a blast. Playing in the dirt all day.
I don't think I've been this dirty in my life.

That is the most traffic we got all day

Mancora to Pimentel to Chimbote

Riding day #16 and #17, Nov 26-27,2013
The North West of Peru is a desert, it is very flat and we took the opportunity to ride longer distances.
The next goal is the Canyon del Pato and we are missing our mountains.

Lots of walls in Peru, not sure why yet.

Macara to Mancora

Riding day #15 , Nov 24, 2013
Border crossing and beach on the menu.
The border took about 2 hours and that includes waiting 30 min for the computer to get fixed. It was a smooth crossing, not a big one so we were alone for the most part.
Then to the beach... Mancora is a famous surfing place in Peru but our surfing will be for another day :the waves did not show up.
We stay for 2 nights and simply relax.

Cuenca to Loja to Macara

Riding day #13 and #14 , Nov 21-22 ,2013
Time to head South to Peru. So the next 2 days are to get to the border.
Jason got sick in Macara so we stayed an extra day so that he could recharge.

 Fresh juice everyday
view from out room in Macara

Cuenca

Walking around this UNESCO heritage town

Ruins in the middle of the town, not impressive but still there.

Macas to Cuenca

Riding day #12, Nov 19, 2013
Mascas to Cuenca
Not much to report today other then we said goodbye to the Amazon.
We also took an unpaved road to cross over parts of the mountains.
Cuenca is at 2500 altitude so it is more comfortable weather.
We plan on staying here 2 days to visit and deal with some motorcycle issues.

Baños to Macas

Riding day # 11, Nov 18th, 2013
Baños to Macas
Baños seems to be a small playgrounds where you can do tours, ziplining, rafting...
Everything seems to be aim at tourist.
Very nice location at the base of a Volcano that was hidden in the clouds the whole time we were there.
It was a hot and humid day as we got closer to the Amazon.
Along the way we went through a few long tunnels going right across the mountain.

Quilotoa to Baños

Riding day #10, Nov 17th, 2013
Quilotoa to Baños
Plan A was to cross over to the Amazon side through another national park.
This time we were allowed to go in but showing the map to the park personnel made us turn around because the road on the map did not got all the way across like we thought.
Time for plan B. Head for the city of Baños.
The tallest falls are close buy and we can cross to the Amazon from there.

Quito to Quilotoa

Riding day #9, Nov 16th, 2013
Quito to Quilotoa
First we go to the great Cotopaxi national park. The ride there was great again, with great weather that was hinting that we might be able to see the summit clearly.
We were not to happy to learn that access to motorcycle was not allowed in the park.
We Still got some great picture from our take a snack spot after the rejection :-(

 Cotopaxi from way to far

The rest of the day riding was special because Jason was following the off-road path of the GPS and it brought us to our in the best way possible.
No one around, in the middle of the country, all sorts of terrain possible including grass.
Here are the photos.
